Enter a start date and an end date. The calculator counts every day in the range, removes Saturdays and Sundays, and shows how many business days remain.
- Enter the start date. For project planning, this is usually the date work begins or a contract is signed.
- Enter the end date. This is the deadline or delivery date.
- Read the results. The primary result is the business day count. The breakdown shows how many weekend days were excluded and the total calendar days in the range.
Note: This calculator excludes Saturdays and Sundays but does not account for public holidays. Adjust the result manually for any holidays that fall within your date range.
About the Business Days Calculator
Business days (also called working days) are the standard unit for contracts, legal notices, shipping estimates, and project timelines. Most countries define business days as Monday through Friday, excluding public holidays. This calculator handles the weekend exclusion; for specific holiday calendars, refer to your country or region's official list.
The calculation is inclusive of both start and end dates. If your start and end are the same weekday, the result is 1 business day. A full week from Monday to Friday is 5 business days.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many business days are in a month?
Most months have 20 to 23 business days, depending on the month length and which days the weekends fall on. January typically has 21 to 23 business days. February has 19 to 20. The exact count varies by year. Use the calculator to find the exact business day count for any specific month by entering the first and last day of that month.
Does this calculator include public holidays?
No. This calculator only excludes Saturdays and Sundays. Public holidays vary by country, state, and employer and are not universal. If you need to exclude holidays, note them separately and subtract them from the result. For US federal holidays, subtract the count of holidays that fall on weekdays within your date range.
What does "5 business days" mean for a shipping estimate?
A 5 business day shipping estimate means the package will arrive within 5 weekdays from the ship date, not counting the ship date itself. If an order ships on Monday, 5 business days means it arrives by the following Monday (skipping Saturday and Sunday). This calculator can confirm that count by entering the ship date as the start and counting forward 5 weekdays.
How do I calculate a deadline that is 30 business days from today?
To find a future deadline that is exactly 30 business days from today, use the Add / Subtract Date Calculator and add 30 days, then check the result with this calculator. Alternatively, a rough estimate is to multiply 30 by 1.4 (adding 40% for weekends) and add that many calendar days. The exact date depends on how many weekends fall in the period.
