About Simplifying Fractions
Simplifying (or reducing) a fraction means dividing both the numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor (GCD) until no common factor other than 1 remains. A fraction in simplest form is easier to understand and compare with other fractions. The process does not change the value of the fraction, only its representation.
The GCD is found using the Euclidean algorithm, which repeatedly divides the larger number by the smaller and takes the remainder until reaching zero. This is efficient even for very large numbers.
