How to Use the Sin Cos Tan Calculator

This calculator evaluates all six trigonometric functions for any angle you enter.

  1. Enter an angle. Type any number in the angle field. You can use whole numbers, decimals, or negative values.
  2. Choose the unit. Select degrees or radians from the dropdown. The calculator converts between both automatically.
  3. Read the results. All six trig values appear instantly: sin, cos, tan, csc, sec, and cot. The table also shows the angle in both degrees and radians.

Results update as you type. The Share button creates a pre-filled link with your angle, and Copy grabs the values for pasting elsewhere.

About Trigonometric Functions

The six trigonometric functions relate the angles of a right triangle to the ratios of its sides. Sine (sin) is the ratio of the opposite side to the hypotenuse. Cosine (cos) is the ratio of the adjacent side to the hypotenuse. Tangent (tan) is sine divided by cosine. The three reciprocal functions are cosecant (csc = 1/sin), secant (sec = 1/cos), and cotangent (cot = 1/tan). These functions extend beyond right triangles through the unit circle definition, where sin and cos give the y and x coordinates of a point on a circle of radius 1.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between degrees and radians?

Degrees divide a full circle into 360 parts. Radians measure the angle by the arc length on a unit circle: a full circle is 2 pi radians (about 6.2832). To convert degrees to radians, multiply by pi/180. To convert radians to degrees, multiply by 180/pi. This calculator handles both units and shows the conversion.

When is tangent undefined?

Tangent is undefined when cosine equals zero, which happens at 90 degrees and 270 degrees (and their coterminal angles). At these points, the ratio sin/cos involves division by zero. The calculator shows "undefined" for these cases rather than an error.

What are the reciprocal trig functions?

The reciprocal functions are cosecant (csc = 1/sin), secant (sec = 1/cos), and cotangent (cot = 1/tan or cos/sin). They are undefined wherever their corresponding base function equals zero. These functions appear less often in basic math but are important in calculus and advanced applications.
