How to Use the Lottery Number Generator

Select your lottery game from the dropdown, then click Generate Numbers. The tool draws numbers at random without replacement, which matches how real lottery drawings work. Here is what to know:

  1. Choose your game. Powerball, Mega Millions, EuroMillions, Pick 3, Pick 4, and a Custom option are all available. The preset fills in the correct number count and maximum values for each game automatically.
  2. Custom mode. Select Custom to enter any number range and count. Set Bonus Ball Max to 0 if your game has no bonus ball.
  3. Generate. Click the button to get a fresh set of numbers. Previous picks are saved in the history below so you can compare sets.
  4. Copy or share. Use Copy to copy your numbers as a comma-separated list, or Share to send a link.

About Lottery Quick Picks

Lottery quick picks are randomly generated numbers that have exactly the same odds as any numbers you pick yourself. Every combination has an equal probability of winning. For Powerball, the odds of matching all five numbers plus the Powerball are 1 in 292,201,338. For Mega Millions, odds are 1 in 302,575,350. Studies of lottery winners show that about 70-80% of jackpot winners used quick picks. This is largely because most players use quick picks, not because quick picks are luckier.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are randomly generated numbers as good as personally chosen numbers?

Yes, statistically identical. Every combination of lottery numbers has exactly the same probability of being drawn. The lottery draw machine has no memory and no preference. Numbers that have not been drawn recently are not "due." Numbers drawn frequently are not "hot." Each draw is a fresh independent event. Choosing your birthday, anniversary, or a random pick makes no mathematical difference to your odds of winning.

What is the difference between Powerball and Mega Millions?

Powerball draws 5 white balls from a pool of 69 plus 1 red Powerball from a pool of 26. The jackpot odds are 1 in 292 million. Mega Millions draws 5 white balls from a pool of 70 plus 1 gold Mega Ball from a pool of 25. The jackpot odds are 1 in 302 million, making it slightly harder to win. Both games are played in most US states and offer multi-state jackpots that can grow to hundreds of millions of dollars.

Should I play the same numbers every week?

Mathematically, playing the same numbers every week is identical to playing different numbers each time. Your odds per ticket are the same. The only practical consideration is that if you normally play the same numbers and then skip a week, and your numbers are drawn that week, you will have missed a win. To eliminate that regret factor, some players commit to their regular numbers and never skip. Others prefer the variety of fresh quick picks each time.

How are lottery numbers drawn to be fair?

Official lotteries use certified drawing machines, typically either gravity-pick machines (where numbered balls are mixed by air and fall through a tube one at a time) or air-mix machines (where balls float in a chamber and are selected by suction). The machines and balls are tested by independent auditors before each major drawing. Multiple sets of balls are kept in secure storage and selected randomly for each draw to prevent tampering. This generator mimics those draws by sampling without replacement.
