Uses for a Random Wheel Spinner
The wheel spinner is useful for classroom activities (calling on students), team meetings (deciding who presents first), deciding where to eat, picking a movie to watch, board game character selection, drawing giveaway winners, and any situation where you need to make a random choice from a defined set of options in a visually engaging way.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the wheel truly random?
Yes. The winner is determined by Math.random() before the animation starts, and the animation simply spins to show that result visually. The visual spin does not influence the outcome. Each option has an equal probability of being selected regardless of its position on the wheel or its size (all slices are equal).
Can I save my wheel options?
Yes. Click the Share button to generate a URL that includes all your current options encoded in the link. Bookmark that URL or share it with others. When someone visits the link, the wheel is pre-loaded with your options. Options are stored in the URL as a JSON array, so the link will be longer for more options.
How many options can I add?
You can add up to 20 options. With more than 20, the wheel slices become too small to read labels clearly. For larger lists, use the Random Name Picker which accepts unlimited entries. If you need to randomly pick from a large list without a visual wheel, the Name Picker supports hundreds of names.
Can I remove an option after it is picked?
Yes. Click the × button next to any option in the list to remove it. After a spin, you can remove the winning option to prevent it from being picked again in subsequent spins. This is useful for elimination-style decisions where each pick removes one option from the pool.
